On 26 August 2026, a devastating flash flood swept through entire regions of Nepal, changing the lives of tens of thousands of people within a matter of hours. Homes were swept away, roads and bridges destroyed, and countless livelihoods lost. Around 1,400 people have died, while more than 5,000 are still missing. The valleys along the Bhote Koshi and Trisuli rivers have been particularly badly affected.
The Deutsch-Nepalische Hilfsgemeinschaft e. V. (DNH), a long-standing partner of the Margarete Müller-Bull Foundation, was able to respond immediately. During the initial emergency relief phase, affected families and more than 300 schoolchildren in temporary shelters were provided with clothing, shoes, hygiene products and food.
Access to clean drinking water remains one of the greatest challenges. DNH therefore funded twelve mobile water filtration units that can operate without electricity or chemicals. The systems provide rapid access to clean water and can later be converted into permanent water stations.
The Margarete Müller-Bull Foundation is supporting DNH’s flood relief efforts, helping to ensure that rapid and practical assistance reaches the people who need it most.
As the immediate emergency response gives way to recovery, a much longer task now begins. Homes, schools and infrastructure need to be rebuilt. At the same time, many people will require ongoing support following the traumatic events they have experienced. DNH is therefore already assessing how its work can provide sustainable, long-term assistance in the areas most severely affected.
